Monday, May 20th, 2013

-7 Days until GRADUATION!!!

-All students will be working on their final group projects. The project description is available on my assignments page. DO NOT sign-in to your google docs. If you try to log-in you will not be able to access the document. Close the entire browser and re-open my page to access the document.

-OPRF will be here for an in-school afternoon field trip today, May 20th.

-Friday, May 24th is the 8th grade dance.

-PLEASE TURN IN YOUR PERMISSION SLIPS FOR GRADUATION REHEARSAL AT OPRF ASAP. We will be going on Tuesday, May 28th.

Monday, May 13th, 2013

-12 Days until Graduation!!

-All Students will be writing a reflective essay on Monday in class and finishing for homework on Monday night. The essay will ask students to reflect upon their strengths and challenges while analyzing their effort in math class.

-All Students will begin work on their final group projects this week. Final projects must be submitted by Friday, May 24th via e-mail.

-Wednesday & Friday we will be completing activities related to the math behind roller coasters in preparation for our Great America Trip.

-Thursday students and staff will be at Six Flags Great America.

-17 Days until Graduation!!

-Math 8 Students will be learning how to solve linear systems with graphing and the substitution method. There will be a short quiz on Friday.

-Algebra 8 Students will be "flying" through Chapter 13 on probability. There will have a multiple choice quiz on Friday.

-22 Days until Graduation!! Please return the appropriate forms and fees in the BLUE Graduation Packet to the Office ASAP.

-Math 8 Students will be working with special exponential relationships this week. On Friday, they will take a Quiz over 4.6 - 4.8.

-Algebra 8 Students will be reviewing Chapter 12. On Thursday and Friday, they will take a Test over all of Chapter 12. (HINT... Review Factoring in Chapter 9)

-Ms. Meyers is available Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings this week.

-Thank you to everyone that helped with the field trip last week. It was a success!

-Progress Reports will be going home today during 9th period due to last week's flooding issues. Please return the slip signed by Thursday, April 25th.

-8th Grade Graduation Activity Packets will be distributed on Tuesday during Advisory. Please read ALL the information carefully.

-Math 8 students will be finishing Chapter 10 and our study of surface area and volume this week. We will have a final assessment on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

-Algebra 8 students will be working on sections 12.5-12.7 this week. They will complete a quiz over these sections on Thursday.

-There is NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, April 26th. Teachers will be present for an institute day.

-Ms. Meyers is available to meet with students before school on Monday and Tuesday this week. Please schedule an appointment.

FIELD TRIP REMINDERS

***Wednesday, April 17th from 9:00am-3:30pm***

***Students are responsible for their own lunch***

***Dress appropriately for the weather***

***Chaperones should arrive at 8:40***

-On Monday and Tuesday all classes will be familiarizing themselves with the CTA Map, CTA routes, Chicago's grid system, and our clue sheets.

-Math 8 Classes will be exploring the volume formulas for prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres on Thursday and Friday. They will complete an open-note quiz over 10.6-10.7 on Friday.

-Algebra 8 Classes will be learning about multiplying expressions on Thursday and Friday. Algebra 8 students should take some time to look back at Chapter 9 to refresh their factoring skills.

-Ms Meyers is available Monday, Thursday, and Friday before school and during lunches. Please e-mail or talk to her to schedule an appointment.

**FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIPS ARE DUE BY FRIDAY!!! COST IS $12.**

-Students taking the OPRF Math Placement Tests will be receiving letters in the mail regarding the testing date on April 27th, 2013.

-Algebra 8 Classes will be learning to divide polynomials this week. On THURSDAY there will be a Quiz over 12.3-12.4.

-Math 8 Classes will be learning to calculate the surface area of pyramids, cones, prisms, and cylinders. On THURSDAY there will be a Quiz over 10.3-10.5.

-Ms. Meyers is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings for help sessions. Please send an e-mail or see her to sign up for a time.

-Happy LITERACY week!!

-On Monday, the entire school will be operating on an assembly schedule. We will be completing anti-bullying activities in stations and participating in an assembly by John Halligan. Mr. Halligan will also be hosting a presentation for parents on Monday night at Brooks.

-Throughout the rest of the week students will be reading a Scholastic MATH newspaper and completing the associated activities, delving further into The Number Devil, and completing assembly follow-up activities.

-Homework will be centered around refining algebraic abilities through handouts and bookwork.

-Ms. Meyers is available before school on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday this week. Please e-mail her or sign up to schedule a time.

-All classes will be reading 2 novels this week. Tuesday and Friday we will be reading pages from Egghead. Monday and Wednesday we will be reading chapters from The Number Devil.

-Math 8 Students will be finishing up the first half of their Geometry studies for the year. We will end this segment with a Quest (Shorter Test) on Thursday and Friday of this week. The Quest will be over 1.6, 3.5, 6.4, and 8.1-8.8.

-Algebra 8 Students will be finishing up Chapter 11 with a Test on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week.

-Math 8 Students will be looking at formulas for quadrilaterals, polygons, and their angles. We will also discuss the concept of congruency. The Quiz will be over 8.3-8.5 on Friday.

-Algebra 8 Students will focusing on the Pythagorean Theorem, Distance Formula, and Midpoint Formula this week. The Quiz will be over 11.4-11.5 on Friday.

-CONFERENCES ARE THIS WEEK. Due to conferences Ms. Meyers office hours for assistance will be limited to lunch sessions. E-mail or stop by to schedule one.

-Graduation Pictures will be taken THIS FRIDAY, February 1st. Please dress appropriately.

-8th grade forms are due by WEDNESDAY, January 30th to the office.

-Math 8 Students will be working on angle pairs and the relationship between angles and triangles this week. Please see the assignment page for the day your student will take the 8.1-8.2 Quiz.

-Algebra 8 Students will be working on solving radical equations. Please see the assignment page for the day your student will take the 11.1-11.3 Cumulative Quiz.

-NO School on Monday, January 21st for Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday.

-Stuffing day for portfolio conferences is Friday, January 25th. Please turn in conference forms ASAP.

-Math 8 Students will be officially starting their geometry unit with familiar formulas. This week will focus on squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles. They will have a quiz on Friday.

-Algebra 8 Students will be starting Chapter 11 of their curriculum. We will be graphing and simplifying radicals. They will have a quiz on Friday.

-We are officially halfway through the year! Congratulations!

-All 8th grade students will be MAP Testing Monday & Tuesday this week.

-Math 8 Students will be completing a Pythagorean Theorem mini-unit this week. They will have a quiz over Pythagorean Theorem on Friday.

-Algebra 8 Students will be reviewing Chapter 9 & 10 this week. There will not be a quiz this week.

-Unfortunately, Ms. Meyers has meetings this whole week before school. However, she will be available during lunches.
