CURRICULUM NOTES:

Math: Students will work with volume and geometry this week.

Reading/Language Arts: This week we will continue to read selections that go along with our Habitat and Ecosystems Unit in Science. They will also continue working on a project that will be due Monday, May 20.

As we move primarily into basing instruction off Common Core Standards, all assessments will be in the written form. *You will not see weekly Treasures multiple choice tests or practice book pages for homework any more. However, students will continue with grammar and spelling instruction.

Writing: Our last writing project will be a fictional narrative. We will discuss story elements, writing strong beginnings, middles and eds, and using dialog.

Science: Students begin creating their eco-columns (mini ecosystems made from 2-liter pop bottles). There will be a quiz on Friday, May 17.

Homework: Please check assignment notebooks daily for updated HW assignments. Missing HW will result in lost recess time and/or academic study hall.

Spelling: Spelling lists will be stapled in assignment notebooks on Monday every week. Please have your child work on the spelling web site,http://www.spellingcity.com/aschroeder/    Lists are organized by unit, week, color. Students should spend at least 30 minutes every week studying their spelling words. If you don't have access to a computer at home to study, ask Ms. Biggins for a list of spelling activities.
