BRAVO Spotlight! Tidbits, news and information from BRAVO!
Band, Repertoire, Art, Vocal, and Orchestra
BRAVO! is the fine and performing arts department at Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School in Oak Park, IL. Our acronym represents the following artistic areas:
Band, Repertoire, Art, Vocal, and Orchestra including Theatre, Drama, Speech,
Piano, Guitar, Jazz, Orff-Schulwerk and Dance.
BRAVO! seeks to support, encourage and promote these areas through
academic classes, clubs, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities offered at
GBMS. We believe that all students should have access and the opportunity to
fully participate in the arts. BRAVO! strives to positively impact each student at
GBMS giving them extensive opportunities to participate, learn, and observe the
various fine, applied and performing arts. In addition, BRAVO! sponsors
workshops, master classes, concerts and all-school assemblies throughout the
year, bringing in guest artists, composers, and ensembles, to further broaden the scope of arts related experiences for all GBMS students. Our hope is that GBMS students will develop a deep appreciation and continue as lifelong participants and/or patrons of the arts.
BRAVO! was developed to support the Oak Park Elementary School District 97's commitment to arts education, as is reflected in the school district's mission statement. Art, Band, Choir, Drama/Speech, General Music, Guitar, Orchestra, and Piano are all offered as academic classes during the school day. The BRAVO! team is proudly comprised of nine full-time faculty/staff members along side its very active BRAVO! Parent Advisory Board (BAB).
BRAVO! is able to offer such high quality and diverse programming due to well
thought out fundraising efforts throughout the year. Additional funds are received
from awards, grants, gifts, corporate sponsors and District 97. Support BRAVO!
