Vision Statement

GBMS School Leadership Team 2003-2004 Mission Statement

Our Beliefs

The GBMS School Leadership Team believes that:

Students from all ethnic and racial backgrounds want to succeed in school.

The middle school years constitute a pivotal transition for future success in terms of academic skills, social skills and attitude toward school.

The gaps in academic achievement between white students and students of color exist, and these gaps must be eliminated.

All students are motivated to achieve more highly in school by positive, encouraging relationships with teachers and by the support of family and community. According to research, the academic achievement of minority students is likely to benefit significantly from this encouragement and support.

Our Mission

The mission of the GBMS SLT for 2003-2004 is to work to eliminate the minority achievement gap by helping every child perform to their potential. Specifically, we are focused on bringing minority students who are performing below academic standards for their grade up to a level meeting standards, while encouraging all students to perform academically to their full potential. In support of this goal we will provide activities for GBMS students, teachers and families that encourage the development of positive, supportive teacher-student and school-home relationships. These activities should: assume no motivational differences, address specific skill deficits, supply ample encouragement routinely, and provide access to resources and learning experiences.
