Here’s What’s Happening at GBMS:

MID-TERM PROGRESS REPORTS WERE GIVEN TO THE STUDENTS TODAY (FRIDAY, OCT. 10).  PLEASE ASK YOUR CHILD FOR THEIR PROGRESS REPORTS WHEN THEY GET HOME TODAY!!!

BREAKFAST IS SERVED!!!  Our
GBMS Cafeteria is now serving Breakfast before school, from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m.  It consists of a carton of milk, a choice of either sweetened or unsweetened cereal, a carton of juice, and a choice of either graham crackers or a Pop Tart. The breakfast costs $1.65.  Students that receive free lunch have the breakfast at no cost to them.  Students that receive the reduced fee lunch have the breakfast at a cost of .30.  The students may either pay cash, or have it charged to their lunch account.

ATTENTION SIXTH GRADE FAMILIES!!  The GBMS PTO is hosting a 6th GRADE WELCOME DINNER, on Monday, Oct. 20, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the GBMS Commons.  Sixth graders were given a green form several weeks ago (there are extra copies in the office).  To the families that have not turned in the green form:  If you are planning on attending this Welcome Dinner, you must turn in your green form by Wed., Oct. 15th, so we will know how much food to order!!!  Thank You!!

Attention Eighth Grade Families!!!  It is not too late to sign up for the Feb. 28 – March 2, 2009 Washington, D.C. Trip!!  The main office has informational packets available to be picked up, or contact Ms. Teri Dixon at tdixon60@msn.com for more information. 

ROBOTICS CLUB IS COMING TO GBMS!!!  Any student interested in joining the GBMS Robotics Club should attend the meeting on Wednesday, October 15, from 3:30 to 5:30, in the first floor C Wing.  At this meeting you will learn more about the GBMS Robotics Club, and the exciting competitions you will be involved in.  Use your imagination and technical skills to design and build robots that compete against other student’s mechanical creations!!

Attention Dancers!!!  Check out the B.R.A.V.O! Dance Studio.  Hip-Hop classes start on Monday!  Don’t miss out!  Drop by the B.R.A.V.O! office for more info, and pick up the permission slip and commitment form.  You can call 524-5621 or you can e-mail treynolds@op97.org with your questions!!

B.R.A.V.O!’S FALL PIE FUNDRAISER IS COMING!!!  WATCH FOR THE ORDER FORMS THAT WILL COME HOME ON WEDNESDAY, OCT. 15!!!

Session 1 of the After School Artist’s Studio with Mr. Leban begins Tuesday, October 14. It will take place in Room D304, from 3:30 to 4:30.  Permission forms are available in D304 and the B.R.A.V.O! office.  This is open to the first 20 students who return permission forms.  See Mr. Leban for more details!!

Monday, 10-13-08 ~ Columbus Day Observed – All D97 Schools Are Closed!

1. B.R.A.V.O! Advisory Board Meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Lido’s Café, 124 Marion Street.  Come join us!

Tuesday, 10-14-08 

1. The GBMS Book Club meets, from 8:00 to 8:45, in Room C209.
2. Barbershop & Beautyshop will rehearse, from 8:00 to 8:50, in Room D105.
3. Session 1 of the After School Artist’s Studio, with Mr. Leban, begins today.  It will run from 3:30 to 4:30 in Room  D304.  Permission forms are available in Room D304 and the B.R.A.V.O! office.  See above for more information.
4. Cubs Club will meet, from 3:30 to 4:30, in Room D202.
5. Girls Basketball HOME GAME vs. Heritage.  Junior Varsity plays at 4:00, and Varsity plays at (approx.) 5:00.  Admission to the game is .50 for students, and $1.00 for adults.  In addition, GBMS students must have, and wear, their picture I.D.
6. Oak Park Park District Adult Basketball, from 7:00 to 9:15 p.m., in the main gym, and the third floor aux. gym.
7. Ms. Harton’s Math Academy will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., in Room B104.

Wednesday, 10-15-08

1. Rehearsal for the Sixth Grade play Hooray for Hollywood will take place, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., in the auditorium.  We will be rehearsing pages 42 to the end.  Please check out the B.R.A.V.O! website if you are not sure when you should be at rehearsal.  The address is: http://bravo.oakpark.googlepages.com/homepage.
2. B.R.A.V.O! Dance Studio takes place, from 3:30 to 4:45, in the Commons.  All Students are welcome, however, you must have a signed permission form (see above).
3. The GBMS Robotics Club will meet, from 3:30 to 5:30,  in the first floor C Wing.  All GBMS students are welcome to join!!  See above for additional information.
4. Girls Junior Varsity & Varsity Basketball practice, from 3:30 to 5:30, in the main gym.
5. Ms. Harton’s Math Academy will take place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., in Room B104.
6. The GBMS PTO meeting will be held at the end of the first floor C Wing, starting at 7:00 p.m.  All parents/guardians and staff are welcome to attend!!
7. Oak Park Park District Co-Ed Volleyball, from 7:00 to 9:15, in the main gym.

Thursday, 10-16-08 

1. Seventh & Eighth Grade Jazz II will rehearse, from 8:00 to 8:50, in Room D110.
2. The Shoppettes will rehearse, from 8:00 to 8:50, in Room D105.
3. Camerata Ensemble will rehearse, from 8:00 to 8:50, in Room D104.
4. The GBMS Student Council will meet, from 8:05 until 8:50,  in Room C204.  Please send representatives from your Team!!!
5. Girls Basketball AWAY GAME vs. MacArthur.  Bus leaves GBMS at (approx.) 2:45.  Junior Varsity plays at 4:00, and Varsity plays at (approx.) 5:00.  Bus will return to GBMS at (approx.) 6:45 p.m.
6. Rehearsal for the Sixth Grade play Hooray for Hollywood will take place, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., in the auditorium.  This is a Review, and All Company should attend.  Please check out the B.R.A.V.O! website if you are not sure when you should be at rehearsal.  The address is: http://bravo.oakpark.googlepages.com/homepage.
7. Peer Tutoring will take place, from 3:30 to 4:30, in Room B402.  If you want to study with a partner, or need help from a teacher, come to our Peer Tutoring sessions.  You can get help with math, science, language arts, Spanish or French.  Bring your materials with you.
8. Ms. Harton’s Math Academy will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., in Room B104.

6. Boy Scouts, with Mr. Nelson, takes place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., in the third floor aux. gym.
