Crisis Planning
Student safety is a top priority in District
97, and each school has a crisis plan for transporting students and contacting
parents in the event of an emergency. These plans are reviewed by staff
and in collaboration with village authorities each year. In an emergency,
students are not released during school hours without contact with a
parent or guardian. At the end of the school day, students would not
be released into a dangerous environment. Each school has trained social
workers and counselors who are available to help students in distress.
Federal, state, and local governments are working on specific scenarios
and procedures in the event of a catastrophic event. If such a situation
would occur in Oak Park, we would follow the direction of our village
authorities.
Whatever the situation, District 97 staff will do everything
possible to protect our students' safety and comfort. We will also
do everything
possible
to release students, safely, to their parents/guardians.
