World Language - Spanish - Grade 3

Comprehension Outcomes

  • Understand the spoken target language in the classroom setting
  • Understand high frequency words outside of class

Participation Outcomes

  • Follow classroom instructions
  • Demonstrate understanding through active participation
  • Respond appropriately to teacher prompts:  physically, orally, and in writing
  • Demonstrate cooperation, good sportsmanship, and respect

Communication Outcomes

Oral:

  • Use basic vocabulary independently
  • Use proper greetings and polite expressions
  • Use new vocabulary in context
  • Request clarification in target language
  • Use target language whenever possible
  • Use target language in oral and written form in learning activities across the curriculum
  • Communicate independently in phrases and where possible in complete sentences
  • Use correct pronunciation in familiar words, especially of vowel sounds
  • Begin to develop sound-letter correspondence in pronunciation and reading

Written:

  • Follow modeled written expressions with high degree of accuracy
  • Write independently in words or short phrases at appropriate level

Cultural Outcomes

  • Demonstrate familiarity with another culture through target language
  • Demonstrate appreciation of and respect for other cultures, especially those that speak the target language, through music, movement, and other media
  • Recognize traditions of target cultures
  • Identify cross-cultural similarities and differences
  • Demonstrate knowledge of geography, especially of the Spanish-speaking world
