2nd Grade Art Curriculum

Creative Process

.Second graders continue drawing and painting using a variety of tools such as pencil, chalk, markers, oil pastels, tempera and watercolor paints. They begin to study color relationships on the color wheel and their projects link with the core class topics such as “symmetry” and “reptiles”. Using what was introduced in first grade, second graders now develop more complicated printmaking, paper construction, clay and weaving ideas. They begin to build an awareness and appreciation for the exploring of space, forms, shape and structures such as those offered in architecture. Their art history studies are based again on the connection of various artists’ styles and techniques from the present and the past.
