Applied Arts Creative Process

Applied Arts 8th grade classes are trimester-long elective classes. They meet daily for 8-12 weeks and may be composed both of 7th and 8th graders. Students continue to build on the skills learned in the 7th grade introductory class. Projects may be modified for the first time student. There are more challenging and involved woodworking assignments in this class and the use of power tools is introduced at this time. Additional work in architecture presented here includes the design of an interior space, elevation and perspective drawing.

Career opportunities are outlined in an effort to show students real life application of course material. Professional artisans and architects may be incorporated into the curriculum of these classes as occasional presenters. A safety discussion takes place upon introducing any new skill, tool and/or material that will be used by the students.
