1st Grade Art Curriculum

Creative Process

First grade students meet with the art teacher in each building for a period of 67 minutes per week. It is here that they further develop their skills in pencil drawing, tempera and watercolor painting, crayon resist, chalk, oil pastels, printmaking, paper construction, clay, sculpture, and weaving. Use of the vocabulary in the Elements of Art continues. First graders often have their art project themes parallel those of their core classroom, such as the study of planets and insects. Art history is woven into the art curriculum through teaching art techniques used by artists, present and past.
