Adventure freeform poetry, dist. 97, Brooks, grade 6, Language arts class period 9

A voyage one man decided to take
was a dangerous one with much at stake.
He would travel throughout the hostile Sahara
and fight off the evil sun.
Surrounded by nothing but sand,
this man would support himself and no on else.
It would go in the record books.

However, the awesome heat claimed one more
without so much as a thought.
Perhaps he hadn’t planned to return,
but now he most definitely will not.
Sadly, no one really missed him, and no tears were shed.
They hadn’t even recognized his feat,
for he had made the ultimate sacrifice
to study and test the limits of a widespread species:
the man.
