May in Japan

It is spring; as new life springs from the ground, so there are new beginnings everywhere. School opens for a new year. Companies also start their new business year.

The last week of April and the first week of May are called the Golden Week. There are many festivals and holidays. There is much celebration and happiness.

Even Colonial Sanders standing outside of Kentucky Fried Chicken takes on a new look!

This is the week when you will see many carp streamers flying above homes, celebrating boy's day.

Here is a site that was created two years ago about this and other holidays: http://www.att.virtualclassroom.org/vc99/vc_03/realsite/cd/cdindex.html

People go outside and enjoy the holidays. There are concerts, yummy beef cooked outdoors, great fun is had getting together in the nice weather.
