These groups of dancers create their own dances and music and compete in the Yosakoi festival.

Dances can be traditional Japanese style or may be 'rock 'n roll' or samba styles now days.

The dancers are very energetic and use clappers called naruko which are held in their hands. Originally these were used to frighten the crows away from the fields.

The Yosakoi Festival started in Kochi City, but now Yosakoi festivals are held in many places all over Japan.
