Dear Friends, We are in the 6th grade. How are you? We want to teach you about Israel's holidays. We have many wonderful holidays, these are some of them: |
ChannukahThere are special foods for Channukah; there are the potato pancakes and the jelly doughnuts. These are the doughnuts: On Chanukah we spin dreidels, it's a custom. On Chanukah we light candles on the Channukah lamp, it's a commandment, there are nine arms on the Channukah lamp-one arm is beadle, and with the beadle we light the other candles, fire to fire. Channukah continues eight days, every day we light one candle (by using the beadle). |
PurimPurim is like Halloween, at Purim we dress up in costumes, last year I dressed up as a gift, I made this costume with my mother, I think the best part in Purim is to make the costumes alone and not to buy them. On Purim we play with noisemakers and we eat things called "Haman's ears", Haman was the name of one of the persons in the story of Purim, he was the bad man of the story because he wanted to kill the Jews. These are Haman's ears: |
PassoverOn Passover we make a big meal and we eat many kinds of food like eggs, celery, the head of the fish, potatoes, matza and more. Matza is a special food for Passover, it's unleavened bread made from flour and water because at Passover we can't eat leavened food. This is Matza: |
SukkotOn Sukkot we build a sukkah (it's like a tent but it square). We decorate the Sukkah with paper chain and other ornaments. When we finish to build and to decorate the sukkah, we eat in the sukkah. We can't make a roof for the sukkah because there is one rule that says that you need to see the stars from the sukkkah and if we make a roof we can't see them so we build a special roof, we make a roof from very big leaves. This is a Sukkah: |
There are more holidays but we chose to write just about these holidays because we like them very much, I think they're very fun and interesting! Good-bye for now, |
