Chochin Matsuri (Paper Lantern Festival)
Usuki Shrine in Himeji City

The autumn festival of the Usuki Hachiman Shrine is the last autumn ceremony held in the Himeji city. The name ``Chochin Matsuri'' comes from the fact that more than 1,000 lanterns are gathered hung from 3m-long bamboo poles. The lantern-carriers bump into each other to try to tear down the others' lanterns.
