Bridge
In 1998 the Akash Kaikyo Bridge was completed stretching
12,828 feet from the city of Kobe to Awaji-shima Island. The bridge spans
the Akashi Strait, which is very busy, so the engineers had to be sure
it didn't block shipping traffic. It also had to withstand hurricanes,
tsunamis, and earthquakes.
