Smoking and Health

According to statistics, about 1 million people die every year because of illnesses caused by smoking. Governments spend more and more money for treatment of smokers from diseases that could be avoided. The number of smokers suffering from serious illnesses is several times larger than that of nonsmokers.

Content of cigarette
When a smoker breathes a smoke inside, the temperature at the cigarette end reaches 60 Grads Celsius. During this process about 200 harmful substances are formed. Scientists tell that smoking of only one cigarette can be compared with spending 36 hours in a very busy road. A cigarette contains substance called nicotine; the fourth part of it goes to organism of a person with the smoke. Cigarettes with low amount of nicotine are only illusion, as it was proved that if cigarette contains small amount of nicotine, a smoker will breathe deeper or smoke more quantity to achieve a dose that he needs.

Brain and nicotine
Nicotine reaches the brain in 7 seconds after the first draw. It seems that it improves the work of brain’s nervous impulses. But it happens only for a little time and after it has gone, process in brain become slower and a person needs a new cigarette to support the work of his brain. When people smoke for a long time, brain refuses to work properly without frequent smoking. When it doesn’t receive its dose, a person becomes annoyed and worried and tries to smoke as soon as possible.

Heart and lungs
Organs of breathing are the first to take the attack of a cigarette. And they suffer more than other organs. Hot smoke disturbs the breathing ways and after some time of smoking a person receives constant cough and lungs illnesses, as a result. The number of people who have lungs cancer is several times larger among smokers.

Last time the big concern of doctors in the world is heart and vascular diseases. The main reason of this is also smoking. Different experiments show that after smoking of a cigarette the substances are formed that makes heart work quicker than it should normally do. It’s very difficult for a heart muscle to work in such condition. The lack of oxygen in a smoker’s blood makes the situation even worse. As a result of such intensive work without enough oxygen, the heart gets different diseases like infarction and stenocardia. A smoker begins to feel difficulties after a slight physical work or walking in a quicker temp.

People who smoke for a long time can acquire a very serious illness of legs when vascular become very narrow or even blocked. It leads to legs amputation.

Other organs
It’s practically impossible to find the organ that is not affected by smoking. There is a close connection between smoking and lips and tongue cancer. Lips cancer can occur even in the case when people don’t allow smoke in lungs, but only pretend they are smoking (such things happen with young children who don’t know how to smoke but want to show to their friends that they are grown).
Stomach and other digestion organs also suffer from smoking very much. Several years of smoking can cause such illnesses as ulcer and gastritis. In it’s turn this can lead to more serious diseases like cancer. Investigations show that that among people who suffer from ulcer about 76 % are constant smokers.
American doctors came to conclusion that smoking makes a bad impact on organs of hearing. If a person smokes about 20 cigarettes a day, the ability to perceive the speech and sounds reduces.
After several years of smoking teeth become yellow and begin to destroy.

Smoking and children
The children who smoke suffer more than adults. Body is developing and the younger the child the more harm smoking brings interfering in the process of development. Children who start smoking in a very early age often lack height and weight. Investigations made in school show that students smokers are often not very good with learning and sport. Children who smoke usually are more nervous than their non smoking peers.

Passive smoking
Passive smoking is not less dangerous than active smoking. Non smokers who for different reasons spend much time with active smokers can have the same diseases as smokers have. It’s very bad for the health to live in a room or flat when people smoke right there. Smoke doesn’t go away and people have to breathe it for a long time. It’s especially dangerous for children, as sleeping in such room constantly can break healthy sleep that is needed so much.
