Jidai Matsuri

Jidai Matsuri (which means festival of the ages) is like a living history book. It is a festival held in late October in Kyoto, commemorating the anniversary of the moving of the capital to Kyoto which happen in 794. During this festival, there in a parade or processession in which the participants wear costumes of the historical periods from 794 up to 1868 when the capital was again moved; this time to Tokyo.

The parade stretches out for over a mile and lasts about 5 hours.

Visitors in this year's parade included the Governor of Toscana and the Mayor of Firenze, Kyoto's Sister City.
