Hello!

We wanted to tell you a little about the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashana. Why do we call this holiday in such a strange name? It is very simple. In Hebrew, Rosh means head, and Hashana means year. Head of the year and it’s true: Rosh Hashana is the beginning of a new Jewish year, and the first of the month Tishrei. We use to eat in Rosh Hashana apple with honey (try it, it’s great) so we would have a sweet year. We eat a fish’s heads, so we would be the heads and not the tails. We eat the pomegranate's grains, so our health and happiness will be as much as the grains in the pomegranate. We go to the synagogue to pray for a good year. In the synagogue we listen to a shofar's tekiah – its special blast. A Shofar is a ram's horn, which makes strong sounds. We have vacation, and we go to sleep late. The children like the month Tishrei, because there are two more holidays, and of course – vacation.

We hope you will have a lovely year!
