Tenjinzaki/Cape Tanabe (Wakayama prefecture)
National Trust in Japan
Following the example of National Trust in the United
Kingdom, voluntary participation by
the public in activities, such as fund raising for the acquisition
and management of land with good natural environment has grown.
The National Trust movement began in Japan in February
of 1974 with 16000
signatures. It's purpose: the protection
of the natural enviroment. In
1975 the first Nature view school started. With the
1976 fund raising campaign, it was
possible to buy Tenjinzaki's area with
it's mountain and forests. In
October of 1983 National Trust's party
in Japan opened Tanabe City, Wakayama.
