Ginkaku-ji or temple of the silver pavilion is
the more common name for Jisho-ji. It survived a ten year period of wars
in which two claimed to be Shogun. Much work was done in restoration during
the early 17th century.
One of the most beautiful features is the reflecting pond and the surrounding
bamboo trees. This temple's Dojin-sai is believed to be the original design
for all tea rooms to follow. The tokonoma (alcove) for displaying flowers
/ scrolls and found in many Japanese houses today is said to have created
here first.
