My Favorite Christmas Memory

Janett T.

Every year on December 24th my family gets together at one relative’s house. We usually drive to Dallas because all of my mom’s family lives there.  We greet and hug each other with love.

We do almost the same things every year. My aunt from Mexico makes Mexican tamales and my mom, a Salvadorian makes ones from Salvador. We enjoy different foods from both countries. After dinner we gather and have conversations since we do not see our family members often, but in the holidays. We wait ‘till midnight to open presents and then fall asleep.

One Christmas morning about three years ago was different than any other Christmas because it was snowing. I had never seen snow before because Houston does not get that cold during the winter season as it does in Dallas. That day turned out to be my favorite Christmas because my cousins and I were able to have fun playing with the snow outside for a long time.

Even though the same traditions are done every year there is always something special about each Christmas. Spending good time with my family is one of the best.
