My Happy Moments
Luis
You have all heard the expression that Christmas is about giving; not
receiving, and Christmas isn’t about the presents, but about being
with your family. Well, in my family when I was little, we didn’t
really celebrate the traditional Christmas. We couldn’t afford
buying gifts; we didn’t have big Christmas dinner, and we certainly
didn’t open any presents on Christmas Eve.
It was not that we didn’t like Christmas, but our family had to
make the best of our situation to celebrate it in our own way. F or
years my brothers and I didn’t really receive any Christmas presents
we would wait for from Santa. We were disappointed to see no presents
on Christmas morning. My dad had accident on the job, and that
stopped him from working, and my mom at that time was unemployed. Even
though they didn’t have enough money to buy us presents, they would
take us out to eat, and afterwards go downtown and look at all the Christmas
lights. Thanks to the generosity of some of my father’s good friends,
we had some gifts at Christmas. I never forget the happy moments
that they gave us.
As I grew up, I watched those Christmas television shows and that make
me think Christmas wasn’t all about presents, but about spending
quality time with my family. Nowadays my mom and I started working,
and so together we buy presents for the whole family. I love to see the
looks on their faces when they were opening them. They couldn’t
be happier than me when I unwrapped my presents from my father’s
friends years ago, and I truly understand the meaning of giving and happiness.
