My Special Christmas
Abel S.
Christmas
is one of my favorite holidays. I love to receive lots of gifts, but
best of all, to reunite with everyone in the family. My parents are from
Mexico, so every year we spend Christmas back home there.
My
favorite memory comes from the Christmas when I was 7. This Christmas
had many special meanings to me because, first of all, every single member
of our family was there for the occasion. No one was missing like at
other Christmas. It was specially fun to play with all of my cousins.
We played tag, hide and seek, and beat the piñata for candies.
The parents were busy cooking for the special Christmas dinner in the
kitchen while the kids were running, laughing and having fun. They made
tamales, barbacoa, rice, frijoles a la charra, and buñuelos. When
the food was ready everyone surrounded a big table eating and talking.
At midnight, the church in the middle of the town rang its bell and fireworks
exploded in the air. The beautiful colored lights flared up in the dark
sky. When the clock struck 12, it was time for opening the presents.
My cousins and I thought at that time that all presents came from Santa
Claus. I can’t forget how happy I was when I got my all time favorite
present, a Power Ranger dinosaur toy. It was the ultimate gift for me
because I really loved the Power Rangers at that time. I still have that
toy stored in my closet. I also got a video game named Banjo Kazowie
that I played with everyday for a long time. I also remember this special
Christmas because my grandfather took us to his ranch and let his grandsons
ride his horses on Christmas day.
It
was a fun, innocent; worry free time when we were kids. I wish I could
go back to my childhood years and live those moments again.
