A Long Awaited Reunion

JC

About a year ago around the Christmas time, I met my half-sister, Michelle for the first time. My dad and Michelle had stopped talking about 19 years ago. We wish every year that Michelle would call, even to at least to say “Hi”, but it never came true ‘till last year.

One day my dad received a phone call that shocked him with surprise and joy. When I saw my dad get tears in his eyes I knew that our wish came true. My dad had the same look on his face when a baby is born. After he hung up, I kept asking,” What did she say?” but for a while he didn’t respond due to the shock. My half-brother, Sandro finally convinced Michelle to pick up the phone and call.

A few days later my dad told me that we were going to go to Cincinnati, Ohio to meet her. We jumped up and down with joy and excitement. Three days later we were on our way to Ohio. On the plane my dad and I did not really talk to each other much until we were about to land because we were so nervous and anxious to meet Michelle.

When we arrived at Sandra’s house, Michelle was on her way. My dad ran to meet and hug her first. He had that same look on his face again. Every time I saw that look on his face, it brought happiness and comfort to my life. Imagine not seeing your first daughter in so long. Next I gave her a big hug. It felt so good like someone lifting a big weight off your back. I was so happy and relieved that I finally got to meet her. At that moment I know my dad and I felt like our lives were finally complete.

That night it snowed heavily in Cincinnati. It was the first time I have ever seen so much snow.  It was cold but we felt warm inside having each other. I would have to thank God so much for the best gift anyone could receive for Christmas.
