Waiting for a White Christmas

Edgar S.

Last Christmas was one of the best holidays ever. It was the first time I saw snow and was able to use firecrackers. I will never forget that wonderful Christmas.

On December 23rd my parents told me that the news weather forecasted that it would snow on Christmas night. That was the best news I could have ever gotten because I had never seen snow before. I was so excited that night that I could not sleep. I kept having dreams of me playing in the snow and having snowball fights. Another reason that kept me from sleeping is that my parents would allow me to buy and light the firecrackers for the first time. This might not seem like a great thing for many people but this is exciting to me.

We would go to my dad’s friend’s house to celebrate Christmas and open gifts there on Christmas Eve. That morning while everyone was getting ready to go, I kept looking out the door waiting for snow. My parents kept telling me that it wouldn’t snow until nightfall, but I couldn’t help myself checking.

The night got darker and darker, but there was still no snow. My hopes were completely crushed. On the way driving to Gerardo’s house I looked out the window and saw something, tiny white flurries, but didn’t want to believe it.  After staring at it for about two minutes I yelled, “It’s snowing, it is really snowing!” When we arrived at Gerardo’s house I had a snowball fight with my brother, made a five-inch tall snowman, and opened all my gifts.  My dream really came true.

It was one of the best days in my life. I was so happy to have a white Christmas in Houston.  Can you imagine that? It only happened once in many years.
