Things you will need:

• Sugar (lots)
• Water (tap)
• Kitchen pot (relatively small, 2qt is all you’ll need)
• Glass jars (or drinking glasses)
• A Stove (or something to proved heat to boil the water)
  
• A scoop (something to move sugar into the boiling water)
  
• Wooden Spoon (stir the sugar water)
• Sticks (long enough to straddle the Glass Jars)
• String

What you need to do:

Add 1 pint of water to the Kitchen Pot.

 

Bring to Boil over stove

Add sugar until saturated (it won't dissolve any more)

 

Pour into Glass Jar.

Tie string to stick, make sure that when the string is lowered into the Glass Jar, it doesn’t touch bottom.

 

Let jar sit undisturbed

Wait.

Patiently.

For several days usually.

What will happen:

Not much for at least a day, perhaps more.

Then, slowly sugar crystals will appear around the string.

And after a day or so you have sugar crystals forming.  Just a few, but perhaps you can see them. 

You may have to wait as much as a week for something like this:
