ORP Orzel Expedition

July 27 is the ORP Orzel Expedition beginning. ORP Orzel /eagle/ was a submarine built with the Polish citizens money in 1938. It sank in 1940 - and still hasn't been found. The expedition has been organised in order to find the wreck, its remains. They left Gdynia at 2pm local time and are going to search the Northern Sea for 17 days. The expedition crew consists of scientists, divers and sailors, accompanied by a TV news group.

Before they left there had been a programme on the shore. Click play bar arrow to start movie taken during the expedition sendoff. In the photos you will also see men dressed in WWII uniforms in a re-enactment that took place (and surprised people with the loud cannon blast!)
