Gluskabe wanted to be the magic hunter. He tried as
hard as he could. Gluskabe hunted to kill the monster that wanted to
keep the water to himself. The monster that Gluskabe killed wanted to keep all
the water to himself was very ruthless.
He used a canoe to kill the monster. Gluskabe was kind by slaying the monster and granting
wishes to anyone who came to him.
Gluskabe went to an island. Gluskabe sailed to a far away island because he wanted
to rest.
There were four Abenaki that wanted to see Gluskabe. There were four men who went to see Gluskabe. The four men went over the sea to go to Gluskabe for
a wish. They zoomed through the sea to get to Gluskabe The
men could smell the smoke from Gluskabe’s
pipe. Each man was granted one wish. Gluskabe gave each man a pouch.
Gluskabe sent them off with a warning. They knew not
to open the pouch before they got home. The men were excited to open their pouch. They opened
the pouch before they go to the lodge. The men thought the wishes were jammed in the pouches.
Three men used the pouch before they got to their lodge.
The man who wanted many things opened his pouch in
the canoe; everything a man could ever want was inside, spears, necklaces
and swords. The canoe was too heavy. He yelled when the canoe was sinking. The first man
who wanted many things drowned in the canoe.
The second man wanted to be the tallest
man in the world. The second man was vain because he cared about
how he looked. The one that wanted to be the
tallest thinks there is ointment in the pouch. The man who wanted to be the tallest turned into a
tree.
The third man wanted to live forever and
turned into a boulder and remained unchanged. He did live forever
but he wasn’t
happy. The man turned into a boulder because he opened up
the pouch before he got to his lodge.
The fourth man realized that his pouch was empty when
he was in his lodge. In the lodge it was quiet. He opened the pouch then
he heard voices. The fourth man got to his lodge and opened his pouch
and it was empty. He heard animals talking to him. The fourth man got back to his lodge and opened his
pouch. He heard animals talking to him and telling him how he can hunt
for food to feed his family and village.
