Bigfoot Cinderella

Grade 1, University School of Nashville, Nashville Tennessee

By Ms. Roth's 1st Grade Class

Original by Tony Johnston

Once upon a time in a log forest, there lived a Bigfoot Prince named Biggie. He had no wife and no children and he smelled very bad.

He wanted to find a wife as soon as possible. He really liked nature and he didn't like when people picked the flowers. He decided to have a festival so that he could find a wife.

And in the woods there lived a Bigfoot family with a mother and her three children and her stepdaughter. The stepdaughter's name was Rrrrrella. Rrrrrella hated for people to pick flowers, too. All her stepsisters did was to pick flowers and to throw rocks at spotted owls, for fun. Rrrrrella didn't like them throwing rocks at the owls.

One day the girls got an invitation to a festival and everyone was excited! Some of the activities at the festival would be "Hurl the Hemlock," "Bear Cave Hide and Go Seek," and "Twirl the Log." Whoever made the Prince fall off the log would become his wife and become queen! The girls pushed Rrrrrella around and said, "Go on,  get us wild flowers for our hair."

The three sisters quickly went off to the Festival, leaving Rrrrrella to fish for their dinner. But if she didn't get one hundred fish in the basket she wouldn't have food for a week.

When Rrrrrella was crying by the lake, a bear came along. He said, "Please give me a fish."

"As soon as I get one hundred and one fish, you may have one," said Rrrrrella.

As soon as she got one hundred and one fish, she gave the bear one. The bear, who was really a Beary Godfather, said, "Since you've been so nice, I'm gonna help you get to the festival." And with a wave of his paw, Rrrrrella's combed hair became tangled and all the flowers in her hair flew out. She said, "I need two clogs so I can stay on the log." And the bear said, "Don't forget to be back by sundown!"

Rrrrrella was a little late getting to the Festival and she saw everyone playing games. The Prince had knocked every Bigfoot woman off of the log, and was feeling sad. Suddenly, Rrrrrella jumped on the log, saying "ME TURN!" And then she starting rolling the log and turned it and the Prince flipped up in the air and landed in the water on his big feet. Zounds! Rrrrrella realized that the sun was about to go down and she jumped off the log and ran into the woods.

The Prince yelled, "WHERE MY STINKING BEAUTY GO?"

The Prince looked down and noticed a big clog on the forest floor, and he knew that if he found the Bigfoot who could wear this clog he would find his bride. The Prince searched throughout the forest, but every foot was too small. He finally came to the tree of Rrrrrella and her stepsisters and her stepmother.

The stepmother and stepsisters tried on the clog but it was so big they could fit all their feet in at once! Suddenly Rrrrrella came up and said "ME TRY!" Her eXtra large foot fit perfectly! The stepsisters and the stepmother were so angry they pulled up tree saplings and wildflowers and the stepmother kicked the Prince until he turned black and blue.

Rrrrrella and the Prince got married and said that the stepmother and stepsisters could attend if they followed three simple rules:

NO PICK FLOWER
NO PULL TREE
NO KICK ROYAL FAMILY

The End
