Cinderella

Grade 1, Charles C. Cashman School, Amesbury, Massachusetts

 as retold by Mrs.Scholtz's Class

Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl, who was called Cinderella.  Cinderella's mother had died and her father married again to a wicked stepmother and her two daughters.  These daughters were mean and evil and expected Cinderella to do all the housework and help them dress and do their hair.  The step sisters named her Cinderella because she was so dirty from the cinders in the fireplace.

One day a royal messenger came and announced to all young ladies that the prince would be having a ball and was in search of a wife.  The stepsisters started to make plans to go to the ball.  They were busy deciding what to wear and how they would arrange their hair . They didn't give Cinderella a second thought.  When they were ready for the ball and had left, Cinderella sat down and started to cry.  Suddenly, her fairy godmother appeared.  She told Cinderella to go to the garden and bring back a big pumpkin.  This pumpkin she tapped with her wand and turned it into a coach.  The fairy godmother did the same magic with mice, lizards and a rat with long whiskers.  When she was finished Cinderella had a splendid coach, driver, coachmen, and six horses.  All that was left was what she would wear.  Her fairy godmother used her wand again and Cinderella was dressed in a beautiful gown with tiny glass slippers.  Cinderella left for the ball knowing she would have to be back before midnight or all the magic would disappear and all would be as it was.
