Once upon a time there was a fisherman and his wife. The fisherman and his wife were young and very poor, they lived in a miserable little old, hut near the sea. They lived in an old filthy hut. It was like a pigsty. Isobel, the wife, wanted to live in a better house. The fishermanís wife was angry about the miserable hut.

One day when the fisherman was fishing, he saw a magic fish at the end of his hook. He let it go because the fish begged to go free. The wife questioned the fisherman about the fish. She quickly found some way of getting the fish to grant them a cottage.

The fishermanís wife was eXcited when she showed him the six fat hens in the little cottage garden. However she wasnít happy with the cottage for long, she thought that the cottage was too small, she thought that the kitchen was too small. It was so small she could hardly move. The fishermanís wife was very greedy. The next thing she wanted was a castle made of stone.

The fishermanís wife was a selfish person. She got whatever she wanted. First she had a nice cottage. Later she asked for a castle instead!!!

Isobel wanted to live like a grand lady. The fisherman did not. Instead of being happy, Isobel wanted more and more wishes. The fisherman was frightened when his wife said that he must ask the flounder fish in the sea for more.

The fish zoomed to the surface when the fisherman called him. When the fisherman had finished talking to the fish, he hoped that the waves would crash over him.

The fishermanís wife was not happy with the castle. She wanted a palace filled with gold and silver. Her wish came true. She wore a crown and she sat on a velvet throne. When the fisherman came home to Isobelís palace, he saw her waving. He went up the marble staircase into the Throne room. He bowed down to her.

The guards guarding the magnificent palace wore silver uniforms. They played silver trumpets, which sparkled in the sunlight. The fishermanís wife wished to be Queen. Her wish was granted. She became a queen and she sat on her throne all day long.

The fishermanís wife, Isobel, became very rich and wore rich and beautiful dresses. She wore a golden crown with jewels in it, rubies, sapphires and diamonds on it. Her fingers shone with Diamonds too. The people bowed to the Queen as they walked into the throne room. Beside the Queen, stood the fisherman.

The wife was never happy with her cottage or with her castle. Even in the palace she was never happy.

The fisherman, however, wanted nothing to be happy.

The fishermanís wife wanted to be emperor. She wanted to rule all the land. However, when her wishes were granted, she thought that wasnít enough.

The fishermanís wife wanted to be a god, because she still wasnít happy.

The fisherman was so afraid when he had to go back again to ask for this wish, as he asked, the sea turned black, the fish said, "Now go back, you will find your wife in the miserable hut where she once was."
