The Frog Prince, Continued

Grade 2 - Woodward Academy Primary School, Atlanta, Georgia

Retold by Abby Bennett's Second Grade
Woodward Academy Primary School, Atlanta, GA

The Princess kissed the frog.  He turned into a prince.  And they lived happily ever after? Well, not so happily… As a matter of fact, they were miserable!  The princess threw enormous fits.  She thought the Frog Prince was a plain idiot.  The princess said, "Stop jumping on the furniture! Stop sticking your tongue out! Sometimes I think that you should turn right back into a frog."

The prince was so unhappy that he thought that was a good idea.  He decided to run away and look for a witch to turn him back into a frog.  He ran into the woods and he found a witch.  He asked the witch to help him since he was the Frog Prince.  He wanted her to turn him back into a frog.  She said, "I'm going to have to put a spell on you because I can't have any princes waking up Sleeping Beauty before the hundred years are up."

The Frog Prince didn't stay to see what nasty spell she had in mind for him so he ran deeper into the forest.  He found another witch.  He asked if she could help him get turned back into a frog.  The witch said, "Here, eat this apple because I can't have any princes waking up Snow White."   But the Frog Prince knew his fairy tales and he knew a rotten and poison apple when he saw one, so he ran deeper into the forest.

He found another house with a witch outside.  When he got there he asked her if she could help him turn back into a frog.  And the witch said, "If you're a frog, then I'm the King of France!"  The prince looked at the witch's house and noticed it was decorated with candy and goodies.  He went up to the house and broke a piece off of the wall and it tasted like gingerbread.  "Yummy!"  he thought.  He asked the witch if she knew any children by the names of Hansel and Gretel.  She said, "Yes, I'm expecting them for dinner."

As we said, the prince knew his fairytales well and knew what the witch would do to him, so he got out of there fast!  He ran deeper into the forest.  Soon he found another person to help him.  It was a fairy godmother.  He said, "Excuse me, excuse me.  Can you help me?  Can you turn me back into a frog?"  She said, "I've never tried frogs before but here goes"?…and she zapped him! He turned into a carriage and he was completely lost.  The prince was miserable and thought he had such bad luck!  He could be sitting at home in his castle with the princess right now, but instead he is a carriage stuck in the forest.

Suddenly, the clock struck midnight in the village and he turned back into the Frog Prince and he quickly ran home.  He knocked on the castle door and the princess opened the door and she said, "Why are your clothes so dirty?"  The prince looked at her, the one who had believed in him when no one else did, and he kissed her and they both turned into frogs. They hopped off and lived happily ever after!
