A Tale About Lion and Mouse

Written by Polly Peterson

This is a story about Lion and Mouse.  Lion and Mouse did not live in a zoo.  They lived in a jungle.  Many animals walked around freely. Mouse was quiet.

One morning, Mouse heard a loud noise.  What animal would make such a sound?  Mouse wanted to know more.  She ran toward the sound.  Mouse saw a tail in the grass.  Mouse climbed up the tail. Mouse looked down.  Mouse saw a big paw.  Just then Mouse looked up. Mouse saw Lion. Mouse knew it was a lion.  The lion was big. The lion had big, yellow eyes.  The mouse jumped down.  The lion caught Mouse with his huge paws. Lion was eXcited to catch Mouse because he was very hungry. The animal had big teeth.

"I want to eat you", said Lion.

"Please don't eat me", said Mouse. "Someday I will help you," said Mouse.

Lion did not think that Mouse could ever help him but Lion did let Mouse go.  Mouse ran fast.

Soon some hunters came.  The hunters made a strong net.  The trap caught Lion.  Lion roared loud.  Mouse heard Lion roar.  Mouse saw Lion up in the net.  Lion was very scared.  The mouse opened the net.

"Go.  You are free," said the mouse.

Mouse was right.  In the morning, Lion was free.  The mouse climbed on the big lion.  The lion and the mouse became friends.
