The Frog Prince

Grade 1 - Crisman Elementary School - Portage, Indiana

Original Tale by Jon Scieszka
Teacher: Mrs. Blech
Assistant: Mrs. Szymanski
Project Coordinator: Ms. Creutz

The frog prince and the princess lived in a big castle. The prince kept reading his book and it said that they lived happily ever after. It wasn't true. They just didn't get along. The prince drove the princess crazy. He hopped all around the castle and jumped on all the furniture.

"I do not know why I kissed your slimy lips," said the princess. The prince went out the door to find a witch to turn him back into a frog. Quickly he ran away from the castle.

Soon the prince ran into a witch who was watching television. She had a remote control with a skull on it.

"Can you turn me into a frog, please?" asked the prince. The nasty witch was going to put a spell on the prince. The prince ran away from her.

He soon came upon another witch. This witch tried to give him an apple. The apple was slimy and disgusting. It was yucky. This witch was nasty, too! So the prince ran away from that witch.

Soon the prince came upon another witch. She was planting ice cream cones in her garden. The witch invited him into her house. The prince thought the house looked familiar so he eats the windowsill of the witch's house. It was gingerbread! Once he tried the gingerbread house, he ran away from that witch.

Then the prince ran into a fairy godmother. This was a magical witch. She zapped the prince, but she accidentally turned the frog prince into a carriage.

The prince was very upset. He missed his princess, the one who kissed his slimy lips. When the clock struck midnight, he turned back into a prince. He ran home to his castle.
The princess was
excited to see him again.

"I am upset because you are late for dinner," she said. The prince knew that he loved the princess. The princess kissed the prince. They both turned into frogs and lived happily ever after.
