The Frog Prince

Grade 1, University School of Nashville, Nashville Tennessee

Retold by Ms. Kennedy's classroom at USN

Once upon a time, there lived a Prince. He lived in a palace in a tropical rainforest. One day a witch that lived in the rainforest turned him into an orange and green frog!

No one knew what had happened to the Prince. His friends when quizzed didn't know. His family didn't know (that's the King and the Queen). The animals didn't know where this Frog had come from!

The witch got confused and even she didn't know what had happened to this frog.

He leaped and leaped and leaped all the way to a palace in the next Kingdom. There were lots of puddles all around the palace, and they were as big as ponds. The ponds were full of jungle plants.

One day a Princess, who was wearing a yellow dress, was playing her xylophone and playing with her ball and she dropped her ball one of the ponds. And it was really really deep. The ball went to the bottom of the pond. A snail crawled over the ball. Then the Princess saw the Prince, who she thought was just a frog, swimming over the ball, too. Before the Frog could get the ball for the Princess, a Snapping Turtle grabbed it and zipped away.

The ball slipped out of the turtle's mouth. The Frog grabbed it and brought it up to the surface and dropped it down in front of the Princess.

"I can't believe you got my ball," said the Princess. And she kissed the Frog!

Here's what happened: The Princess turned into a Frog!!! And then the magic got mixed up and even the witch turned into a Frog. When that happened her magic was made very useless and both the Prince and the Princess turned back into a Prince and a Princess. Finally, the Snapping Turtle, angry about having dropped the ball, came back and ate the witch!!!

The Prince and the Princess got married, moved to a new castle of their own, and lived happily ever after...
