Jack and the Beanstalk

Grade 2, Collegiate School, Richmond Virginia

Once upon a time there was a boy named Jack and his kind mother. They lived in a tiny cottage nestled in the valley. They had a cow named Milky White, who gave them milk every day. One day Milky White stopped giving milk.

Jack’s mother said that they would have to sell Milky White. Jack was on his was on his way to the market when he met a peddler who traded him 5 magic beans for Milky White.

When Jack got home his mother was very mad. She threw the beans out of the window and sent Jack to bed without any supper.

The next morning there was a giant beanstalk in the garden. Jack climbed the beanstalk. He found a castle. He met a giant woman and asked her for some breakfast. She said to be careful because her husband liked to eat little boys.

Just then they heard a Thump, thump, thump. Jack hid in the stove. The ogre came in for breakfast. He said,”Fe fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman.”

After a large breakfast the ogre began to count his gold. When he went to sleep, Jack quickly jumped out of the stove, took the gold, and ran down the beanstalk.

His mother was very eXcited to see the gold.

After some time, Jack went up the beanstalk again. The giant woman warned Jack that the ogre was mad because someone had stolen his gold. She gave him some food and hid him inside of the stove.

The ogre came in and said, “ Fe, fi, fo, fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman.” After he ate, he got out the hen that laid golden eggs. When the ogre went to sleep, zzzzz, Jack popped out and took the hen. Jack ran down the beanstalk.

Later, Jack climbed up for the third time. He quietly snuck in the castle and his in the breadbox. The ogre came in and said, “ Fe, fi, fo, fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman.”

His wife looked in the stove but Jack was not there. The ogre called for his singing harp. Then he went to sleep. Jack quickly grabbed the harp and ran. The harp began singing and woke up the ogre . The ogre started chasing Jack.

Jack rushed down the beanstalk and yelled for his mother to bring him the ax. Jack cut the beanstalk down with the ax. Jack and his mother lived happily ever after. J is for Jack, the hero of our story!
