Chicken Little

retelling by Grade 1, Landmark Academy, Kimball, Michigan

Once upon a time there was a chicken. He was small. One day an acorn fell on his head. He ran around and screamed “The sky is falling!” He met some friends like a goose and a duck. They all thought the sky was falling down, but it was really just one acorn. A fox came and tried to trick Chicken Little and his friends. He really just wanted them for supper, but he tried to get them into a cave. The friends got locked in a jail truck by the mean fox, but they got out, and the fox got taken to jail. He didn’t bother birds anymore.

Polly the Parrot
Inspired by Chicken Little
created by Miss Jacobs and first grade friends

Once upon a time there was a parrot named Polly. She was walking under a tree. An apple fell on her head. “What just fell on my head?” Polly cried. “The world is falling!”

A cat named Puff saw her. The cat ran in the woods because he got scared. Puff the cat came back and starting chasing Polly the Parrot. Polly got bonked in the head with another apple. “Ah, the world is falling, the world is falling!” she cried. Puff stopped chasing Polly because he got hit on the head with an apple.

Puff started chasing Polly the Parrot again and tried to catch her. The cat looked around and saw another cat named Scruff. Scruff was nice and tried to stop Puff from chasing Polly. They saw a dog, and both cats got chased! The dog stopped chasing them and went into the house for a drink. When he came out, he started chasing the cats again.

The dog ran right into a tree! The bump on the head made him nice, so he was nice to the cats. The cats turned back and saw the apples on the ground and ate them. Polly the Parrot saw the cats eating the apples and chased them into the house and locked the doors. Polly thought she trapped the cats, but the cats jumped out the window and ran far away. The dog and Polly the Parrot were friends.
