The Princess and the Pea

Grade 2 - Woodward Academy Primary School, Atlanta, Georgia

Retold by Mrs. Bosse's Second Grade

Up on a high hill, there was a castle where a young prince lived. He traveled all over the world looking for a princess. The prince was very angry because he could not find a princess. He really wanted a wife. The prince believed he could find a real princess but he didn't know when.

One dark and stormy night, there was a knock at the door. The guard wanted to know whom it was. So he called the king and queen to the door. They saw a woman at the door and asked her to come inside. She was wet and dirty but the prince thought her face looked exactly like a princess's. To find out if she was a real princess, the queen put a pea under twenty layers of mattresses and featherbeds. In the morning, she looked haunted &endash; She could not sleep well because she had something hard in her bed. The prince said, "You are a real princess"! We need to zip up this story because it's just a fairytale. So the prince asked her to marry him and everybody lived happily ever after.

THE END.
