Message from February 23, 2018

Thank you to all the parents who came out to our PTO meeting on Tuesday! We enjoyed a very informative session on technology and students’ mental health sponsored by our Diversity committee. If you were unable to attend, we will be posting the presentation shortly.

This year's Hatch Science Fair has been updated to include new categories for student to consider while searching for the kind of project they may want to explore: Experiment, Research, and Demonstration.  Note the explanations for each category, display suggestions, and links for project ideas. Specific rubrics for each will be available shortly. Many thanks to Hatch mom Jill Sullivan for her time and efforts in researching and providing much of this information.

PARCC Testing Dates

Beginning  Monday March 5th, our third, fourth and fifth grade students will take part in the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers testing (PARCC). Fifth graders will also participate in the Illinois Science Assessment. We are excited that  testing will be web based again this year, which will give students the opportunity to build experience with testing on a computer in a comfortable environment. We have limited our testing window to two weeks for each grade level. Please see the schedule below.

Students should make every effort to be present and on time to school during the testing window. Should an illness or unforeseen absence occur, the student will participate in make-up testing. Parents, please assist your child in being prepared for testing. Eating breakfast and being well-rested will help your student to do his or her best. Discussing the importance of the test while minimizing any anxieties your child may be feeling is helpful as well. As is required by law, every student who is eligible to take the PARCC assessment will receive a test ticket or test booklet. However, in accordance with our practice, anyone who elects not to take the assessment will be permitted to read a book after the teacher has read the directions to the class and students have begun the testing process. If you have any questions or concerns regarding PARCC testing, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
