Message from Sept. 7, 2018

As we settle into the third week of school and I spend time popping into classrooms, I am excited to see students highly engaged in hands on activities and challenging discussions. It is obvious that teachers have been busy planning over the summer!

Please join us for the Hatch Curriculum Night next Wednesday, September 12th  from 6:00-7:30 pm. During our Curriculum Night, you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and hear about the various learning experiences we have planned this year. There will be two sessions so that families with more than one child can attend each classroom presentation. Session A will run from 6:00-6:45 pm and Session B will run from 6:45-7:30 pm. If you do not need to attend two classroom sessions, I highly recommend that you visit our Library, Music, Art, PE, and Spanish teachers. We have an amazing fine arts team that would love to share their curriculum and programming information with you. We will also have our support staff available in the foyer by the main entrance to answer questions and provide information on the many resources we offer our students.

Thank you to those of you who are already signing in at the main office when entering the building. We love having such a strong parent presence in our school! As we work together to ensure everyone’s safety, please try to remember that all visitors must enter through the main office and get a visitor’s badge.  This small step in our procedures is important in emergency situations to make sure every person in the building is accounted for. We appreciate your cooperation as we work together to keep our children safe!

Whenever possible, please try to schedule doctor visits, etc. outside of the school day and be sure to alert both the teacher and the main office if you know you will need to pick up your child before dismissal in order to ensure the least amount of disruption to the learning process as possible. Thank you!

Due to flooding issues with the rain recently, we will be installing a brand new floor in the music room this fall! This very exciting project will mean another newly remodeled space for our school, including fully contained abatement, brand new flooring, and possible sound enhancements for the walls to create a stellar new music lab! In order to complete the work mid-year and accommodate the removal of the old floor, we will be housing our music classes in the auditorium temporarily while the work is completed and may need reroute some entrance procedures as well. We will let you know if it will impact your child’s class as soon as a plan is in place.  We hope to begin work September 19th.

As we start to prepare the Hatch School Directory and Yearbook, please remember that if you selected “No to Directory” and/or “No to Photo” when you registered your student for the 2018-2019 school year, your child’s name/contact info will NOT be in the directory and your child’s photo will NOT be in the yearbook.  If you would like to change this or if you are not sure what you selected for those permissions, please contact the main office.

Just a reminder that if you purchase the 2018-2019 Hatch Yearbook by September 30th, you will receive a 15% discount. See the flyer for more information.

Enjoy the Trimester One Art News from our wonderful Art Teacher, Ms. Klemp!

Students have just wrapped up their second week checking out books from the Hatch Library. As a reminder, library books should be brought back every week on the student's library day. All kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders received a letter today regarding how to log in at home to see what library books their child has checked out. Third, 4th and 5th graders will be able to access this information from their iPads in the coming weeks. If you have any questions please contact Ms. Howe at [email protected].
