Message from March 1, 2019

Thank you so much to all the families that participated in our Wishing Day today, March 1st. Here is hoping all your wishes come true! Click here to our wishtree come to life. Thank you again to everyone for reading Wishtree with their families and thank you to the PTO for supporting our first ever One Book One School!

This week our entire student body attended an assembly given by “Mad Science” to kick off their work on various science fair projects. The science fair is an independent project that is optional for all Hatch students. It is a great way to encourage discovery learning and get our kids hooked on science!

We celebrated a lot of birthdays this past month. Click here to see all the new books and happy smiles for the new books to celebrate their birthdays! Remember to download an order form for your child's birthday here.

IAR Testing Dates

Beginning  Monday, March 11th, our third, fourth and fifth grade students will take part in the Illinois Academic Readiness  testing (formerly known as PARCC). Fifth graders will also participate in the Illinois Science Assessment. We are excited that  testing will be web based again this year, which will give students the opportunity to build experience with testing on a computer in a comfortable environment. Please see the letter below. Students should make every effort to be present and on time to school during the testing window. Should an illness or unforeseen absence occur, the student will participate in make-up testing. Parents, please assist your child in being prepared for testing. Eating breakfast and being well-rested will help your student to do his or her best. Discussing the importance of the test while minimizing any anxieties your child may be feeling is helpful as well. As is required by law, every student who is eligible to take the IAR assessment will receive a test ticket or test booklet. However, in accordance with our practice, anyone who elects not to take the assessment will be permitted to read a book after the teacher has read the directions to the class and students have begun the testing process. If you have any questions or concerns regarding IAR testing, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
