WORM Club

The Irving W.O.R.M. (Working On Reading in the Morning) Club is a program before school on Mondays through Thursdays in the Irving Library from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m.  It begins in October and runs through April. It is for first, second, and third graders that are identified by their teacher and DIBELS Test Scores as struggling with oral reading fluency and / or reading comprehension. The program is staffed by volunteers that range from community members, staff, past and current older students, and parents. The students are paired up with a volunteer They read a book at their level and then take a quiz on the computer about that book. The books and computer program used are from Accelerated Reader. First graders will also work on sight word cards and basic phonics skills as well. There is a volunteer breakfast at the end of the program to appreciate our volunteers each year.
