The Washington Irving School community recognizes the partnership
that exists between the home and the school in educating its students.
Together and in concert it is our purpose to foster the intellectual,
physical, emotional, and social development of the students while
they acquire self discipline and morals.
Washington Irving School is a laboratory for living which encourages
students to find joy and discovery in learning while mastering skills.
The environment of the school is one in which each student feels safe
and worthwhile; one where each year's investment in effort will yield
at least a commensurate growth in academic achievement; one where students,
staff, and parents enjoy mutual respect; and one where students will
gain self-esteem and develop a positive self image.
Embodied in the school community is a social contract in which all
persons are treated with the dignity and consideration due them as
fellow human beings. Irving School recognizes the richness in its multicultural
composition. By attending Irving School, students will acquire a better
understanding and appreciation for persons of differing ethnic heritage.
