Marley Dias – Author Visit

Percy Julian Middle School is delighted to welcome author, activist, and founder of #1000blackgirlbooks Marley Dias on Wednesday, January 31st. Ms. Dias will talk with students about her new book Marley Gets It Done And So Can You. 8th grade students will be present in the auditorium and 6th and 7th grade students will have the opportunity to see the presentation through a livestream.

Julian students have been preparing for Marley’s visit by using these resources. 6th and 7th grade Foundations and Integrated Studies classes have the opportunity to make a Welcome, Marley! project to win seats in the auditorium. Many classes have signed up for Julian’s #1000blackgirlbooks read-ins in the library as well.

Students can order Marley’s book to be signed. Order forms are due to the Julian library by 1/31, and a limited number of signed copies may be available until 2/9. Students will also have the opportunity to have their photo taken with Marley.

At just 13 years old, Marley is an empowered inquirer and a principled risk-taker. Her #1000blackgirlbooks project is a compelling embodiment of the International Baccalaureate Community Project. Excitement is building each day for the awesome opportunity to have Marley Dias visit Percy Julian Middle School.

Student Led Parent/Teacher Conferences - Thursday, February 8

Families should have received information from their student's grade level team leader to sign up for student/parent/teacher conferences earlier this week. Our students lead these conferences. Over the next two weeks, they will spend some time considering their organizational, communication, reflective, or affective skills. Students will choose an area to reflect on that is important to them. This reflection will be the focal point of the conference. Students will be collecting work samples from various classes to share during the conference. They will also have a pre-meeting with their teacher in order to ensure that they are prepared and ready to lead this important meeting.
