This rock is extremely old, dating back to the eighth century B.C.E. It comes from near one of the oldest Greek settlements in Italy. This piece of rock was taken from Sibyl’s Cave in Cumae, Naples, Italy. The word

 

sibyl comes from a Greek word meaning “prophetess”. Each sibyl, or prophetess, had their own cave where they told the future and their secrets to visitors
