This project is meant to help you understand the mathematical contributions the Egyptian culture has had on mathematics. It supports the fact that math is essential to everyone’s life throughout history.

You will be using the internet and other resource materials to find information about the Egyptian numeration system. After researching the information, you will be creating a slideshow of your findings (you may use Appleworks Presentation or Keynote). Your answers need to be in complete sentences and be grammatically correct for credit. Be sure to use complete sentences and present your information in a creative way. All questions must be answered and you may work in groups of 2 or by yourself.

Please use the web sites below to help you with your research. You may also use Google to collect images and find more information. Make sure to keep track of the web sites you use, they will need to be included on your bibliography slide at the end of your slideshow.

Include the following information in your slideshow presentation (it does not have to be in this order):

*write your name and age in hieroglyphics

*explain the egyptian numeration system- specifically the symbols, the value of each symbol, and the conventions for reading and writing numbers (please give examples of numbers, how to add and subtract...) create two original problems

*draw the symbol for zero and explain its meaning (give examples of how zero was used in everyday life)

*explain how Egyptian fractions are expressed, how is it different from the way we express fractions? give an example of how to write an Egyptian fraction- using only fractions with one in the numerator (e.g. 2/7 = 1/4 +1/28)

* How are Egyptian fractions different from our system of fractions?

*how did the Egyptians multiply and divide? Give examples of how this was done, how does it differ from our thinking and ways of multiplying and dividing?

*what other interesting information about the Egyptian numeration system did you find- include at least 3 new facts you found by researching

*be sure to include your bibliography of sources that you used for your project
