Homework for 5/20 - 5/24

Monday, 5/20 - Students will continue to read Touch the Top of the World.  They will complete a reading comprehension activity related to the chapter "Quasimodo."  For homework, they should finish the activity and work on the IR Book Fair Project Board.

Tuesday, 5/21 - Students will review the activity related to the text and continue their WebQuest in the Library.  For homework, students need to finish their IR Book Fair Project Board.

Wednesday, 5/22 - BOOK FAIR PROJECT BOARD DUE; students will continue the reading of Touch the Top of the World and start viewing the corresponding documentary.

Wednesday, 5/15 - BOOK FAIR; Start read aloud of adventure text and observe background on mountain climbing and Mount Everest.

Thursday, 5/16 - Continue work on Web Quest in class.  In addition, students will review punctuation.  For homework, students need to finish Steps 1 and 2 of the Web Quest.

Friday, 5/17 - Web Quest Part 1 due; students will continue read aloud and complete a connection activity in class.  Students will also have time to work on their Book Fair Projects.

Monday, 4/29 - INDEPENDENT READING PROJECT #2 DUE; Wrap up skills related to Drama; students will finish up their reading of Monster today.  For homework, students should work on finishing work in their Monster packets as well as continue work on their ABC Projects.

Tuesday, 4/30 - MONSTER PACKET DUE; students will finish up their discussion of Monster and complete their final anticipation/reaction guide; Students will also have time in class to work on their ABC projects which are due Thursday.  For homework, student should work on their ABC projects.

Wednesday, 5/1 - Students will review use of colons vs. semicolons and will discuss the use of hyphens.  In addition, students will have time to work on their Monster Narratives (due Friday).  For homework, students should finish their ABC projects and work on Monster Narrative.

Thursday, 5/2 - ABC PROJECT DUE; students will share their ABC projects in class and will have time to work on their narratives due Friday.

Friday, 5/3 - NARRATIVES DUE; students will finish their ABC presentations and start discussions on types of non-fiction.

Monday, 4/22 - Continuation of skill - Cause and Effect; students will continue to work on applying this skill to the text Monster.  Students will also have time to work on their ABC Project.  For homework, students need to finish p.9-10 in the student journal of the Monster packet.

Tuesday, 4/23 - Students will continue to apply the reading skills learned to Monster.  They will read aloud Monster in class and work on their ABC Projects.  For homework, students should work on their ABC Projects.

Wednesday, 4/24 - Students will complete Giggles #20.  In addition, they will start their next creative writing piece, and write themselves into the book, Monster.

Thursday, 4/25 - Students will continue their creative writing piece and will continue their reading of Monster.  For homework, students should work on their ABC Projects over the weekend and should finish p. 11-12 in the student journal section for Tuesday.

Friday, 4/26 - NO SCHOOL; INSTITUTE DAY... students should work on their projects over the weekend: Independent Reading Project #2 due (4/29) and ABC Project due (5/2).

Monday, 4/15 - Introduction to Cause and Effect in literature; students will take notes and complete an activity that relates to cause and effect.  For homework, students must finish p.7 and p.8 in the Student Journal portion of their Monster packets.

Tuesday, 4/16 - Students will continue to work on Cause and Effect in literature.  They will apply cause and effect to drama.  In addition, students will continue to read Monster aloud in class.

Wednesday, 4/17 - Students will complete Giggles #19.  In addition, they will have group time to work on their ABC projects in class.

Homework for 4/8 - 4/12

Monday, 4/8 - Introduction to the skill sequencing.  Students will take notes and complete an activity that relates sequencing specifically to drama.  For homework, students must finish p.5 and 6 in the Student Journal portion of their Monster packets.

Tuesday, 4/9 - Students will continue to work on sequencing in drama.  They will share their sequencing activity from the day before with their peers, and draw conclusions about the importance of sequencing in telling a story.  In addition, students will continue to read Monster aloud in class.

Wednesday, 4/10 - Introduction to the ABC Project related to Monster.  Students will receive the handout and have time to organize ideas in class.  Students will also have a review in class on Giggles corrections and Giggles vocabulary.  For homework, students should study and review for their Giggles Spring Quiz.

Monday, 3/11 - Continue all-school read aloud.  Introduce new independent reading projects for trimester 3.  In addition, students  will take notes on Tone and Mood in Poetry.  Today will also be the last day for students to work in their Research Groups.  FINAL PAPERS DUE TOMORROW.

Tuesday, 3/12 - FINAL RESEARCH PAPER DUE; in class students will continue to learn about Tone and Mood in Poetry.  In addition, students will complete activities relating to annotation.  Lastly, students will start mini-poetry project. 

Wednesday, 3/13 - TAKE HOME FOLDERS DUE; today, students will work on Giggles #16 and have an introduction to the suffix - ence,-ance, -ian, and -or.  Lastly, students will start their work on writing poetry.  For homework, students should finish their suffix activity sheet and continue to work on poetry writing.

Thursday, 3/14 - Students will follow up to the new suffix and the introduction from Wednesday.  In addition, students will continue to work on their poetry writing.

Friday, 3/15 - AUCTION; in class students will have their end of trimester auction.  Also, students will round out their work on Tone and Mood in poetry.

In class students will continue their work on the new suffixes and they will have an introduction to common Homophones and Homonyms.  For homework, students will need to finish their Homophone activity packet and their class novel activity.

Opinion with notes and activity.  For homework, students need to complete their 5 Guiding Research questions in their packets, Fact v. Opinion Activity sheets, and novel reading for class.

Tuesday, 2/5 - Continue work in Library on Research Questions and start work on Search Terms.  In class, students will go their their reading groups and continue to focus on Fact v. Opinion.  For homework, students need to complete their novel reading for Friday.

Thursday, 1/24 - PREFIX QUIZ; students will also fill out their portfolio reflection sheet and continue work on their Writer's Workshop story final product.  For homework, students should continue to work on their TicTacToe #2 and their Writer's Workshop piece.

Friday, 1/25 - READING DUE. In class, students will work in their reading groups to solidify their knowledge of prediction.  They will complete a reading check quiz and complete activities related to prediction and the text.  Over the weekend, students should work on their TicTacToe #2 due Tuesday, 1/29 and their Writer's Workshop final product.

Monday, 1/14 - Introduction to the genre Mystery.  Students will take notes on the elements of mystery and the different types of mystery.  In addition, they will do an activity in class classifying different mysteries.  For homework, students should start working on their TicTacToe #2.

Tuesday, 1/15 - Continue introduction to mystery.  Students will be broken up into different reading groups and focus on the elements of mystery.  Students may be reading one of three books, Beekeeper's Apprentice, Silverfin, or Deep, Dark, and Dangerous.  Students should follow their groups reading assignments and activities.  All students first reading assignment is due Friday, 1/18.

Tuesday, 1/8 - Students will work on their Writer's Workshop prompts and have a review of the Prefixes that students were introduced to before break.

Tuesday, 12/18 - TIC TAC TOE #1 (Independent Reading Project due) and Finish Novel and Questions/Annotations; students will continue to review all reading skills from novel.  Also, they will break into their reading groups and discuss the assigned reading chapters.  For homework, students should start reviewing for the Novel Test.

Monday, 11/26 - Start new read aloud with class; introduction to conflict in literature and the varying types of conflict students will encounter.  For homework, students need to read Ch. 5-9 in their Mississippi Trial.

Tuesday, 11/27 - Ch. 5 thru 9 DUE; students will continue to work on Conflict; also, they will break into their reading groups and discuss their assigned reading chapters.   Also, students will receive their new Independent Reading Assignments/Projects in class.  For homework, students can start working on their new projects and start reading Ch. 10-12 in Mississippi Trial, due Tuesday, 12/4. ** IR Project - TicTacToe **

Wednesday, 11/28 - In class students will work on their next Giggles in the Middle; in addition, they will review the varying components of Verbs.  Students will receive a review sheet for the Verb Quiz and have a review game in class.  For homework, students should study for their Verb Quiz.

Thursday, 11/29 - VERB QUIZ (in class); students will complete their verb quiz and also start an introduction to prefixes and suffixes. 

Friday, 11/30 - Students will round out their discussions of conflict in literature; they will participate in their reading groups and complete activities related to conflict in Mississippi Trial.  For homework, students need to finish reading (and annotating) Mississippi Trial Ch. 10-12 for Tuesday.

Monday, 11/19 - Introduction to reading topic of Main Idea and Details; students will take notes; also, students will get background on the real Emmett Till story.  For homework, students needs to read Ch. 1-4 in their Mississippi Trial; specifically Ms. VerVynck's reading group needs to annotate those chapters, read Emmett Till background, and write a one paragraph reflection.

Friday, 10/26 - ASSIGNED READING DUE; in class students will work in small group activities related to the reading and focused on inferencing as well as other skills the class has been discussing (context clues, characterization, visualization); for homework over the weekend, start next blog and continue assigned reading.

Homework for 10/15 - 10/19

Monday, 10/15 - Introduction to reading skill of Visualization; work on activity in class focused on visualization (students visual elements of a story and create illustration to match); review expectations for persuasive paper.  For homework, students need to finish their visualization activity (illustration) if they did not finish in class, they should start their persuasive paper rough drafts (due Wednesday) - use format listed, and start reading Ch. 49-72 in Max Ride.

Tuesday, 10/16 - students will continue work with Visualization, but will be applied directly to class novel. Then, students will have time to draft persuasive paper (Rough Draft is due Wednesday).  For homework, students need to complete Rough Draft of Persuasive and continue to read Max Ride (reading due Thursday).

Wednesday, 10/17 - ROUGH DRAFT of PERSUASIVE DUE; students will peer review rough drafts and have mini-conferences with teacher; also, students will wrap-up Verb Types and complete Giggles in the Middle #5.

Wednesday, 10/10 - BLOG #6 Due for Period 3/4 and CHARACTERIZATION ACTIVITY Due; introduction to Helping Verbs and continue talks about Persuasive Writing; assign Persuasive Essay - Rough Draft due 10/17 and Final Draft due 10/24.  For homework, students should start researching their topic for the persuasive essay, work on their assigned reading for their class novel, and work on Blog #6.
