Information about Title I Services for the 2017-18 School Year

Title I is a federal grant designed to serve students who are at risk of academic failure by providing additional instructional support. Each year the district must reapply for Title I funds. The application process is lengthy, and ultimately schools qualify based on their percentage of low income students. For the 2017-2018 school year ISBE opened the Title I application process on Friday, August 18. The district completed the application process on Wednesday, September 6 and began taking applications for Title I Tutors that week with a goal of beginning instruction as early as Monday, September 11 at the elementary schools and shortly thereafter at the middle schools.

As a result, despite the more than 60-day delay at ISBE in opening the application process this year, our students are targeted to begin Title I instructional support within 13 days after the opening of school.

Beye, Irving, Holmes, Whittier, Brooks and Julian have been designated as targeted assistance Title I schools for the 2017-18 school year.
