BRAVO, the performing arts program at Brooks Middle School, hosted its second annual "InSPiRED" workshop on Feb. 10 for students with special needs.

The full-day musical theater workshop included 16 participants who were taught and led by BRAVO director Tina Reynolds and 30 students. Participants in second through 10th grade were taught a 30-minute show by student teachers that double as mentors and inspiring buddies, and the day culminated with a full performance of "The Lion King" for parents and friends, who gave a standing ovation for the new thespians. The day was full of non-stop laughter, music, singing, dance circles, hugs, high fives, new friendships and more.

The InSPirEd workshop is meant to inspire students with autism and other disabilities through the transformative power of music, dance and theater, and help them build self-esteem, find their voice, make new friends, have fun and live their dreams.
